Ready Family

Ready Family

Families are ready for school when they:
• Provide stability and support for their children
• Are responsive to their children and the school
• Provide a safe, affectionate and nurturing home environment
• Provide opportunities to experience and resolve challenges cooperatively
• Support the development of skills and capabilities for the child
• Provide opportunities for positive interaction with adults and other children
• Ensure that children are respected

RECOMMENDED STRATEGIES
Coach and support parents and caregivers to become healthy role models for children of all ages.
• Educate parents about school readiness -- including the importance of social emotional and language development.
• Provide support to parents to strengthen their coping skills so that they can provide positive modeling of self-regulation
• Bring mental health consultants, maternity clinics and pediatricians together to increase efficient screening for parental or infant mental health issues and to establish readily available referral services.
