Ready Child

Ready Child

Children are ready for school when they have:
• Basic needs for health and physical development satisfied.
• The security of environments that are safe, that nurture emotional development and support learning
• Positive approaches to learning new skills
• Skills to communicate their thoughts, feelings and experiences
• The ability to explore and learn from their surroundings
• Effective interactions with peers and adults

The Partnership for School Readiness has explored the strong connections between school readiness and the self-regulation and language development of children.  For more information see our report: How to Support School Readiness and Success of Children, Families, and Schools
